Hands-on learning through nature, food, and language

About the Program

The Schools & Group Programs at the Midori Farm Kyoto Learning Center offer experiential learning opportunities for schools, families, and organized groups.

Programs combine hands-on farm activities, nature-based learning, and, where appropriate, English language use, creating meaningful experiences that connect learning to real-world contexts.

Programs are designed for groups visiting the farm in Kyoto, but elements can also be adapted for off-site or hybrid formats depending on needs.

We host events in Kyoto city parks and other venues, and are willing to organize events at other locations/cities, too.

We have also done online presentations and other activities for remote groups.

Who These Programs Are For

These programs are well suited to:

  • elementary and secondary schools

  • international schools and language schools

  • universities domestic and abroad

  • homeschool groups

  • family groups and community organizations

  • educators seeking experiential or outdoor learning

Programs are suitable for children and students of various ages

and can be adapted to group size, age, and learning goals.

What Groups Do

Activities vary by season, age, and group needs, but may include:

  • gardening and simple farm tasks

  • learning about vegetables, food systems, and seasonal cycles

  • hands-on nature exploration in the surrounding mountains and along nearby rivers

  • arts and crafts inspired by nature and farm life

  • preparing simple meals or snacks together using seasonal ingredients

  • English-language activities integrated into farm, garden, and daily tasks

  • creative activities connected to food, nature, or storytelling

  • campfire activities and outdoor play (weather and conditions permitting)

*for remote groups, power point lectures with Q&A, and other formats

The emphasis is on participation, curiosity, and shared experience, rather than formal instruction.

How Participation Works

Schools and groups typically participate on-site at the farm in rural Kyoto.

Programs may be arranged as:

  • half-day or full-day visits

  • overnight programs with tents, when appropriate

  • multi-day experiences for camps or special groups

Content is tailored to the age, interests, and goals of the group.

These programs are designed for organized groups, typically 10 participants or more.
Special programs can be arranged upon request, including custom themes, longer stays, or combined activities.

Group size, timing, and structure are discussed individually to ensure a safe and meaningful experience.

Overnight programs and extended stays are planned in advance

and depend on group needs, season, and weather conditions.
